Having recently been named the 2020-2021 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, the Callisto Quartet is thrilled to announced that they will be performing a complete Bartok Cycle during their residency at Caramoor. Over the course of two concerts (October and April), Callisto will perform all six of Bela Bartok’s String Quartets. This bold and ambitious musical survey has never before been programmed at Caramoor, making Callisto not only the first quartet to ever perform a Bartok Cycle there, but also the only ensemble to be performing a Bartok String Quartet at Caramoor this season.
The first concert (October 18, 2020) will feature Bartok’s First, Fourth, and Sixth String Quartets, and the second concert (April 2021) will conclude the cycle with Bartok’s Second, Third, and Fifth Quartets.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the October concert will be livestreamed and will not have a live audience. Details about the April concert are still to be determined.
